Garry Malzone
Garry Malzone has been an avid supporter of walking field trials for over 30 years. His first field
trial was in the early 90s and since then he has had his eyes set on the field trial arena. In his
early career he began breeding, raising and training bird dogs. Honing his skills, he branched out
to train professionally. He introduced and promoted the English pointer and walking field trials
heavily to New Jersey hunters through breeding, training, guiding and the use of his shooting
preserve. It was then that the Indian Creek brand was born. In the early 2000s Garry’s field trial
career gained momentum with his line of dogs he developed, capturing countless open field trial
placements along the East Coast. In the fall of 2007, Garry won his first Championship title with
his dog Indian Creek Saga. This was a pivotal moment for Garry and ignited his competitive
passion and dedication for the walking field trial game that continues today with a heavy
concentration in NBHA trials.
To date, Garry has captured 106 Open Championship titles (31 being National titles) with 21
different dogs in 19 different states. His success has swept through the country, from the covers
of New England to the piney woods of the Deep South out to the Oklahoma prairies, up through
the Northern Great Lakes. His record includes winning the NBHA National Open Championship
four times with four different dogs, the NBHA National Open Free for All Championship five
times with five different dogs and the NBHA National Open Breeders Invitational Championship
eight times with six different dogs.
For nine consecutive years (2017-2025) he has held the title as the NBHA Open Overall Handler
of the Year, with additional Handler of the Year awards in the Open Shooting Dog, Derby and
Puppy categories totaling 33 National Open Handler of the Year awards and 39 National Open
Dog of the Year awards. From 2012-2016 Garry was named Open Handler of the Year by the US
Complete Shooting Dog Association.
One of Garry’s most prestigious wins includes taking both titles of the 2017 NBHA National
Open Championship at The Ames Plantation with Megan’s Blackjack and HiFive’s Passin Time.
In 2024, he secured his 100 th Championship title with Ch. Pure Confidence- an honor in itself!
Most recently, winning the 2025 NBHA Open National Invitational Championship with Ch.
Kissamee’s Grousewoods Tea and RU Ch. Indian Creek Bocephus.
Garry’s record is impressive in quantity and quality. His dogs have a unique polish, marked by
Garry’s signature. His accolades are powerful but his dedication, passion, competitive soul, love
and appreciation for his dogs are at the core of all his accomplishments! He has built a legacy in
the field trial world that is unmatched and will stand the test of time.
