Tom Woods

Tom Woods of Adair, OK went to observe a Field Trial in 1981 and the following year 1982 Tom placed in his first Field Trial at Vinita, OK. From that time Tom became involved with Field Trials so much that he later became a pro trainer. Tom was a member of the Indian Territory Bird Dog club, Waggoner County Bird Dog club, and the Tulsa Bird Dog club often serving as an officer, or serving as a trial chairman. In years past Tom has served as the NBHA State Director for Oklahoma.
As a trainer Tom worked with Gun Dogs as well as Field Trial dogs. Tom was well known for starting and developing many young dogs, as he did with NBHA Hall Of Fame L’s Busy Bee. Not only did he start and help develop her, he was one of the four handlers that placed her in the NBHA National Open Championship. A favorite of Toms was Fairchase Jiggs, Tom won the NBHA National Invitational in 2010 with “Jiggs”. Tom was a big supporter of the NBHA Futurity, he placed Sooner Bandit in the eleventh Futurity in 1997 and then won 1st with one of her pups in the eighteenth Futurity in 2004 with Sooner Grace. Other favorite dogs that Tom had won with were Peak Performer, Edden’s Dot, and Buzzbait. Tom also handled Sequoyah’s Doc as RU Champion in the NBHA National Open Championship in 1999.
Tom has served as a judge and is always willing to help mentor and offer advice to any newcomer as well as a seasoned participant who may be having a difficult time with their dog. Tom has always been gracious by offering his time and place to host trials. Tom has touched many lives over the course of more than 40 years of field trials, his integrity and loyalty to others is one of his greatest traits to this sport.
