2015 Moore County Bird Dog Club

The Moore County Bird Dog Club held an NBHA field trial at the Mike Wilson farm in West End, NC on Friday March 6, 2015. We would like to thank The National Bird Hunter Association, Purina, Garmin/Tri Tronics and Gun Dog Supply for their outstanding support of our field trials. What a privilege it is to work with our sponsors and how rewarding it is to see those participating in our trials using the products of our sponsors. It is this hand in hand support that allows us to continue this great outdoor tradition.

Nine setters and eight pointers were to compete on this day for placements in the Open Shooting Dog stake. We began the day under very chilly conditions. However Sunrise Star, a young setter male owned by Dr. George Najor and campaigned by Robert Ecker under the banner of Midnight Kennels, proceeded to heat things up in the very first brace. Running a beautiful forward race, his performance was punctuated by two perfect finds and was to set the bar at a high level. It was not until the seventh brace that his kennel mate, Miss Penn Star, was to put down a better performance. A reaching forward race and four perfect finds secured the blue ribbon for Lady and meant that, on this day Mike would have to settle for second. Dirty Dutchman, a pointer male campaigned by pro Roger Neri, was to earn the final placement. A good reaching race and solid bird work earned this fine pointer the yellow ribbon. The judicial decisions rendered by Tom Green of South Carolina and Eric Russell of nearby Cameron, NC were well received.

Open Derby
The Open Derby Stake featured five English Setters and four pointers. It is so exciting watching these young prospects coursing through the piney woods! Full of themselves and eager to show off their training, they rip through the country exhibiting style and poise. On this day, judges Eric Russell and Tom Green had their hands full separating these youngsters for placements. In the end, Covercharge Search Engine, pointer male owned by George Crumlich and handled by Robert Ecker was awarded the blue ribbon. Google had two nice finds and a wide but forward race, showing shooting dog polish. Pushing Google for the win but settling for second was Attitudes True Grit, a beautiful Setter male owned by Hope and Dennis Beauford of South Carolina and also in the string of Robert Ecker. Mickey is stunning as he runs and breathtaking on point. On this day he was to card two finds to go with his fluid race. Nailing down third place with a performance good enough to win on a lot of days was Fieldstone Farm Blackrock, setter male owned by Jim Millett and handled by Robert Ecker. Bart just does it all and does it nicely. A big race which searched the limits and one polished find assured Midnight Kennels Robert Ecker a sweep of the derby stake. A great outing which showed those present a nice group of future shooting dogs. A great way to end the trial!
