North Missouri Field Trial Association January Trial

Ideal weather conditions made for a great weekend of field trialing and watching some nice dog work in northern Missouri. Fortunately this weekend we had moderate temperatures in the mid-forties and beautiful sunny skies each afternoon. North Missouri Field Trial Association is very thankful for the support shown on this weekend from our participants who were from Missouri and Iowa.
Our trial this year was co-chaired by Tim Penn and Kevin Western as they overseen the operation of the trial from the start to the end. This years trial was held at White Oak Ranch near Edina, MO. This ranch has a great mix of edges blended together by crop, pasture, and hay ground, thus providing an excellent course to evaluate dogs on. NBHA sponsors Purina Pro Plan who supports the NBHA in a big way provided dog food certificates to all the winners. Gun Dog Supply provided a gift certificate each day to be given out to someone in attendance at the trial. Other organizational sponsors of the NBHA are Garmin and Christie Enterprises they too are a big help to the NBHA. Thanks goes out to all who help make this trial a success.
Judging duty is sometimes hard to find for a January trial, but we were blessed that Dr. John Niebruegge of Kirksville, MO agreed to judge all the stakes, along with Charles Beeler of Lancaster, MO who helped judge the 30 min stakes and Keven Western of Queen City, MO who helped judge the puppy stakes. We would like to thank these judges for their time, as their decisions were well received by all. Other thanks need to go out to Corey Huchteman farm manager of White Oak Ranch who helped with prior preparation of getting the course ready, which help made the trial run very smoothly.
Saturday started by running the open stakes, with a very good class of Open Puppy. First place winner in this event was Glovers Jetta, SF owned and handled by Jack Glover, Jetta ran a nice forward race and using the objectives in her search for game. Second went to Penrosa Benoxen, SM owned and handled by Tim Penn, Bens race did not measure up as strong as the first place winner but he did show a nice effort to earn second. Third was Cajuns Frozen Oakie, GSF owned by Jeffrey Wallace and handled by Brent Hoehns, Oakies performance was very close to that of the second place winner.
Open Shooting Dog was a very competitive stake and winning first with a strong forward race and two nice pieces of bird work was Penrosa Stoneyox, SM owned and handled by Tim Penn. Second was Legacy, PM owned and handled by Jim Wirths Spike as he is called, was credited with two finds in his performance. Third was Penrosa Jane Doe, SF, Jane a first year shooting dog, she demonstrated good manners on her bird work, and had a good forward race to earn a placement in this stake, she is owned and handled by Tim Penn.
Amateur Shooting Dog Stake concluded the Saturday running with Stoneface Moxy, PF taking the first place for owner / handler Rowdy Harris, Moxys race had a little more punch than the second place dog, Little Miss Spice, SF and she is also owned and handled by Rowdy Harris, both of these dogs were very good and clean on their bird work. Third place was Jo Jos Skyjett Iron Belle, SF owned and handled by Jim Ogle, Belle showed today that she too has a bright future in the field of competition.
On Sunday we started the day with the Amateur Puppy stake. First place was Carpenters November Man, SM, he ran a nice forward race showing good application running the objectives, and he is owned by Carpenters Kennels and handled by Larry Carpenter. Second place, Glovers Jetta, SF owned and handled by Jack Glover, Jettas performance was very close to that of the winner. Third place with a nice race was Cajuns Frozen Oakie, GSF owned by Jeffrey Wallace and handled by Brent Hoehns.
After the completion of the puppy stake was the Amateur Shooting Dog stake (picture of the Amateur Shooting Dog Winners In the foreground from left: Brent Hoehns with Queen Frostine, Larry Carpenter with Barkers Leer Jet, and Tim Penn with Penrosa Jane Doe Standing: Judge Dr. John Niegruegge, Judge Charles Beeler, and White Oak farm manager Corey Huchteman) with Queen Frostine, PF taking first place for owner and handler Brent Hoehns, Sue is a nice classy pointer female that ran a nice forward race with two finds to her credit. Second place was Barkers Blue Jett, SM owned by Carpenters Kennels and handled by Larry Carpenter, Rusty had a similar performance to that of the first place winner as he also had two finds. Third place was by Penrosa Jane Doe, SF owned and handled by Tim Penn, Jane had one piece of bird work and a good clean performance as she demonstrated her ability as a class performer.
Amateur Derby stake concluded the trial with First place going to Carpenters Southern Girl, SF owned by Carpenters Kennels and handled by Larry Carpenter. Second place was Westerns Emma Sue, PF owned and handled by Kevin Western. This stake was very close for the judges as both of these young derby entries, put on a bird finding clinic. Both dogs would go from one side of the field to the other and would seem to find a bird each time. It was a nice stake to conclude the trial with.
