Oscar Whitt

Oscar Whitt of Attalla, AL has been active with the NBHA and field trialing for over 35 years. Oscar grew up bird hunting with bird dogs as a youngster and the first field trial that he participated in was in 1979 and he placed 2nd with his dog in a Horseback Amateur Derby stake. By getting a taste of field trials Oscar became hungry for more. Oscar attended the first meeting hosted by Jerry Kilgore to organize the NBHA east of the Mississippi River. The next year in 1981 Oscar ran the first field trial in Alabama hosted by the Etowah County Pointer and Setter Club.

Oscar started working and handling dogs for others in 1981 and that is when he declared himself as a pro handler. During his years as a professional handler Oscar has acquired some of the NBHA’s finest winners as he has accumulated 15 Championships wins and 14 Runner-up Champions and two Futurity winners. With this success Oscar has been the winner of the NBHA top award each year winning the NBHA Open Handler of the Year Award five consecutive times from 2012 to 2016. One of Oscars achievements that he is most proud of is winning the North Central Regional Championship three years in a row with three different dogs, Sand Mountain Spirit, Remlap’s Doc Feel Good, and Attitude’s River Kate. Some of Oscar’s other winning Champions are Brady’s Phantom Polly, Little Tom, High Regard, Sand Mountain Icy, and Rocky Hollow Big Time.

Oscar has devoted much of his time to the NBHA organization. Oscar has served in many capacities as judge, trial chairman and has served as the Alabama State Director for many years. Oscar is a member of the Etowah County Field trial Club and has chaired National, Regional, State and many Local club trials.

Oscar Whitt is one of the NBHA’s greatest competitors and sportsman that the organization has ever had. Oscar is devoted to the NBHA organization, his family, his faith, and his friends. Oscar is a true friend to all who have met him and his dedication to field trials is unmatched. Oscar always has a story to share, as he has become one of the great ambassadors for the NBHA.
