Tallapoosa Field Trial Club

The Tallapoosa Field Trial Club held its 55th annual field trial on November 8th in Carrollton, GA at the Farm of Marty and Linda Robinson. Fifty-five years is quite a milestone and we are extremely proud that our trial has not only been in existence that long but the club has continued to find ways to improve the trial from year to year and we feel this year was no exception. We had a great turnout of both participant and spectators and we greatly appreciate everyone who chose to spend their time with us.
All the ingredients necessary for a successful field trial were present. We had very knowledgeable and attentive judges in the judicial saddles in Lavon King of Rockmart, GA and Melisa Dobson of Kingston, GA. Lavon and Melisa have been in the sport for many years and have both successfully campaigned dogs. Their attention to each dog was appreciated and their decisions were readily accepted. We thank them greatly for being so generous with their time.
There are always so many folks to thank for their efforts in performing all the many duties a field trial requires. I would like to start by saying a big Thank You to the NBHA sponsors, Purina and Garmin who are always so supportive of our trials at every level and Gun Dog Supply and Christie Enterprises who continue to support our efforts each trial season.
Danny Robinson and Kevin Berry were very instrumental in being sure we had birds on the course for every entrant, Randy Robinson took care of driving the tractor pulling the gallery wagon around the course and Stanley McCain for taking care of accounting and bookkeeping for functions during the trial. We had a marvelous lunch consisting of bar-b-que and Brunswick stew along with all the trimmings to quench every appetite. Helping with serving the lunch were Linda Robinson, Whitney Berry and Carley Robinson. Whitney and Kevin Berry were also on hand to take care of many other chores and Carley was quick with her camera for picture taking.
The grounds were in almost perfect shape for the trial but a large frost that drifted in overnight didnt prove favorable in the early braces for the searching snouts of our beloved canine competitors. While making scent conditions tougher, there were still ample birds pointed to allow dogs to present their abilities to find and handle game.
The dogs winning the Shooting Dog stakes this year held their own in both the Open and Amateur events. Attitudes River Kate, call name Star, is no stranger to the winners circle and garnered 1st place in the Amateur event and garnered 2nd in the Open. Winning 2nd in the Amateur Shooting Dog was Paint Me Gold, an attractive setter male owned and handled by Bobby Taylor of Winfield, AL. 3rd in the Amateur Shooting Dog stake went to Joes Locksmith Jack owned and handled by Joe Barton of Sandersville, GA.
In the Derby Open stake Bad Water Rex, pointer male owned and handled by Marty Robinson took 1st, Sand Mountain Will Pointer male owned by Mike Otinger and handled by Oscar Whitt taking 2nd and then these same two Gentlemen with the 3rd place dog, Sand Mountain Icy, pointer female.
The Open Shooting Dog stake was hotly contested with the winner emerging in Sand Mountain Will for Owner Mike Otinger and Handler Oscar Whitt. Second in the Open Shooting Dog Stake went to Marty Robinson and his consistent winner, Attitudes River Kate and Sand Mountain Icy brought home third for Owner Mike Otinger and Handler Oscar Whitt.
As we go forward through this trial season the Tallapoosa Field Trial Club wishes everyone a successful trial season full of great fellowship and accomplishment. We ask that each and every participant respect our great sport with unshakable integrity and sportsmanship and be examples for anyone who may be watching or listening and who may have an interest in getting involved. Lord knows we need them.
